How do I make coconut milk myself?

Vegan milk alternatives are trendy and are filling supermarket shelves. However, these alternative products are not automatically healthy, as all sorts of additives are often used. Here you can find out how you can make coconut milk yourself.

The coconut has many effective properties. From protecting against insomnia to preventing seizures, coconut flesh offers many benefits for our health.

Make your own coconut milk

You can make coconut milk yourself with very little effort. All you need is grated coconut, a blender and a nut milk bag or a very fine sieve:
Serving: 1 liter

Ingredients:
  • approx. 70 g raw coconut flakes (desiccated coconut)
  • 1 liter cold water
preparation

Puree all ingredients in a blender. Then add the coconut milk using a Nut milk bag or strain in a fine sieve.

The coconut milk will keep in the fridge for 5 to 6 days. If the solid components separate from the liquid ones after a while, this is not a problem. Simply shake the milk vigorously before using it again.

Conclusion

As you can see, it’s not that difficult to create a healthier alternative compared to animal milk. However, be aware that coconut milk, like animal milk, contains a non-negligible amount of fat and this should be taken into account when consuming it.
